Chapter 149 [Day 305]: Sunday 17 January
OVERCOMING FALSEHOOD WITH TRUTH
Good morning all – we’re back after our 4-week break from sending emails …
From phone conversations with a few of you we know that many people spent Christmas and New Year on their own rather than their usual gathering with family and friends. For us we stayed at home only seeing family briefly at a distance but we did enjoy the restful, albeit unusual, festive season.
Today’s virtual service begins a 6-week series under the title of ‘Overcomer’. We encounter many obstacles in life that can either defeat us or that we can overcome. Worry, sadness, depression, temptation, anger and failure can all defeat us but God provides the means and strength to know and experience victory. The first session of the series deals with ‘Truth’ which is what the whole world seeks to know, whether it be about the pandemic, the American elections or the true meaning of life.
Here’s the service video which lasts 40 minutes >>> https://falconlodgechapel.sermon.net/21728473
The past few days have been rather hectic in our house following Karen’s mum’s fall last Monday – see news update below.
· Barbara Tough suffered a bad fall on Monday when she fell out of the car into the middle of the road outside her house. Fortunately, a neighbour saw it happen and rushed over the road to help get her up. But then on Wednesday morning, she fell again inside the house and we had to rush round to help her back onto the chair. She deteriorated rapidly through the afternoon and after Paramedics had been called, she was transferred to Good Hope where they diagnosed low sodium level and fractured elbow. She remains in Good Hope awaiting transfer to QE hospital next week to sort out the elbow and stabilise her blood. Karen spoke to he mum last evening and felt much more confident that she sounded much more confident and positive.
· We heard yesterday morning that Reg Gunnell had sadly died in hospital whilst being treated for pneumonia. Please remember Doreen and the family at this difficult time.
· Some of you will remember Ann Jordan who was part of our church fellowship from 2009 to 2016 after which she was unable to join with us because of deteriorating health. Ann sadly passed away just before Christmas and her funeral was held last Thursday
· Janet Franklin wishes to thank everyone for all the birthday cards although on the day of her birthday she admits she was somewhat disappointed but then the postman arrived 2 days later with a load of cards, some of which had been posted a week before!

The lady turned to her husband and muttered; ‘I thought things had gone too far when the vicar changed from the King James Bible to the NIV and when Betty the organist was replaced with a Worship Band but now they’re speaking in tongues!’
Hopefully we’ll be in touch again during the week and in the meantime, stay at home and stay safe
