Holiday at Home is a 2 or 3 day holiday club designed for the over-60’s. The building is decorated and transformed to represent the chosen holiday theme, and invitations are sent out to people from our community to come and be entertained, enjoy a hot meal and altogether have a fun time with talks, games and quizzes.
Our first Holiday at Home was organised in February 2008 with over 30 guests attending the 2 day event. Since then we have run annual Holiday at Home events, each with a unique holiday theme set in different virtual destinations: Mediterranean, Africa, Pacific Isles as well as around England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
We’ve seen the Chapel transformed into The Orient Express train, a cruise ship, and we’ve built Egyptian pyramids, African grass huts and English maypoles. We’ve been entertained by singers and musicians, Morris Dancers, comedians, a Scottish piper and a live donkey and many other memorable acts
The Holiday at Home concept was originally ‘borrowed’ from another church and as we have developed new ideas, other churches have been able to copy and adapt for their communities.
