We Believe -

The Bible

The year 2011 marked the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible (Authorised Version) in English. Over centuries, the Bible has shaped our culture and influenced moral values. Numerous phrases and expressions found in the KJV Bible have become part of everyday English language.

But we believe the Bible to be far more than simply a great work of literature or even a religious text book. We believe the Bible, written through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, is the guide-book for life, through the power of the same indwelling Spirit who gives the Christian the power to carry out what is written in it as well as to understand the Spiritual truths it contains. It therefore assumes the greatest authority in enabling the Christian to catch the smallest understanding of the heart of God toward man.

The following Bible verses describe some reasons for the importance of the Bible:

           - All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16)

           - Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path            (Psalm 119:105)

So we attach great importance to reading, studying and teaching what the Bible has to say to us and our world in our days. We believe that the Holy Spirit also reveals in the mind of the Believer a richer understanding of the heart and nature of God toward sinful mankind, and the character of His Son, Jesus Christ.

Sunday teaching is Bible-based and from time to time we run special Bible Study courses for non-Believers, recent converts and established Christians. There are also regular small groups (Home Groups) where questions about the Bible or other matters of faith can be discussed openly and freely.

We encourage regular personal reading of portions of the Bible and daily reading notes such as Our Daily Bread and Word for Today which are both available free from the Chapel.
